Accident injures one

One person was transported to the hospital after this accident occurred on state Highway 10 Monday evening, February 1.

A single vehicle accident was reported Monday evening, February 1, on state Highway 10, approximately four miles from its intersection with state Highway 13, in Evangeline Parish.
Wilfred Melbert, 26, was seriously injured when his eastbound 2008 Chevrolet Malibu approached a curve and left the roadway. The driver appeared to overcorrect to the left and crossed both lanes before leaving the roadway to the left, entering a ditch and striking several trees, according to a report from Louisiana State Police, Troop I, Lafayette. Melbert was ejected. The vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane of state Highway 10, facing north.
Melbert was transferred to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance with critical injuries. The investigation continues. Trooper Dustin Guidroz worked the accident. Charges are pending.
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted.
