The Ville Platte High School basketball teams continue to take down district opponents. The boys, undefeated in league play, took league wins over Opelousas Catholic and Loreauville. The Lady Bulldogs, also undefeated in District 6-2A competition, hammered Loureauville 75-31.

The boys found themselves in big fight in the first half of the OCHS game. The Vikings proved not be intimidated as they matched the Bulldogs basket for basket in front of their home crowd. As the see-saw battled ensued, the Vikings took a 15-14 lead, stunning the Bulldogs. However, it would not be long until the Bulldogs found a way to take the lead. With a stiff press defense, VPHS pulled an 11-point run and went up on the home team 34-31 before the intermission began.

The third period was all VPHS. The Bulldogs took fire and out-shot their opponents 21-11. Cody Jones, Taylor Scott and Tyler Thomas triple teamed the Vikes and helped the Bulldogs to expand their lead. By the end of the period, Jones had used some accurate three-point shooting to take a 55-42 lead into the final block. Jones finished the night with a team high 22 points, including four three-point bombs. It was an impressive performance from the sophomore allow around. He also had four steals and five deflections.

Opelousas Catholic battled back and tried to regain the lead in the final period. They put up 10 points, but were still out-scored by the Bulldogs who put up 12 points. The VPHS boys went to win the contest 67-52. Scott completed his day at the office with 18 points, while Thomas was good for 17 digits.

The VPHS boys crushed the Loreauville Tigers 59-45 Tuesday night. The Bulldogs were stunned in the first period as the Tigers came out strong and out-scored them. Loreauville did the best they could to slow down the Bulldogs resulting in an 11-6 lead after the first block. In fact, half of the offense was a three-point shot from Cody Jones.

The second period showed the Bulldogs fans are used to. The Bulldogs put up 19 points behind accurate shooting from Tyler Thomas and Kimmick Green. Green hit a three-point bomb and Thomas rained down with six points. The Bulldogs struggled to keep the Tigers from scoring. The home team still managed to put up 12 points and did their best to hold on to the lead. However, the Bulldogs went up 25-23 as the midway point arrived.

Ville Platte continued to expand their lead in the third period. Youngster Taylor Scott went off and hit eight digits in the frame, including a three-point bomb. Later in the frame, Andre Carr buried a three-point shot of his own and Jones hit four points. The Bulldogs out scored the LHS boys 20-13 in the third block and bolted to a 45-36 lead.

Things didn’t change much as the fourth period began. The Bulldogs held the Tigers to single digits and did everything they could to put them away. Scott and Jones combined for nine points as VPHS cruised to another league victory. Scott and Jones each scored 14 points in the contest. Scott had a total of three triple-point buckets.

Ville Platte will host Jeanerette Tuesday.
