EVFC Cajunettes hold monthly meeting

After the annual Arbor Day celebration at the LSU AgCenter January 28, the Cajunette EVFC club held its monthly meeting, which was hosted by Gwen Wolff.

Since the December meeting, the club had several activities. Joyce Coreil and Lynn Landreneau attended the Heritage Manor Christmas party and delivered the Raise a Reader bags for newborns to Savoy Medical Center. On January 12, members Nelda Fontenot, Earleen Boyce, Mary Soileau, Martha Miller and Lynn Landreneau served as judges for the 4-H Sweet Potato Cookery Contest.

The Lafayette VFC clubs invited the Cajunettes to attend the Lafayette Cultural Heritage Seminar at St. Edmond's Catholic Church February 25. The state VFC Convention titled "Lagniappe on the River" will be held in Baton Rouge March 23-25.

Cajunette EVFC club activities for February include National Wear Red Day February 5, to recognize the threat of heart disease as the number one killer of women; ARC Valentine's Day party February 11, at the ARC center; Swamp Pop Reunion reception February 15; and the Sew With Cotton style show February 24, at Wal-Mart.

After the February 25, meeting, the club plans to visit the Orphan Train Museum in Opelousas.

The two-part program given by President Lynn Landreneau was about the use of herbs and the use of vinegar. “Herb Harvest” included an explanation on how to prepare and use herbs in cooking. The second topic showed how to use vinegar in place of harsh chemicals which harm the environment. Vinegar can be used to clean a coffee maker or an iron, prevent colors from running on new garments, kill grass and weeds, freshen wilted vegetables and avoid moldy cheese.

Club members attending the Arbor Day program and club meeting were Earleen Boyce, Joyce Coreil, Nelda Fontenot, Tina Guillory, Lynn Landreneau, Elaine LaTour, Elaine MacArthur, Jackie Miller, Theresa Reed, Mary Soileau, Judy Waters, Sarah Webb and Gwen Wolff.
