Minister’s Corner: The power of the blood of Jesus

In the gospel of John 8:1-11, we are told a woman was caught in the act of adultery and brought before Jesus by the Pharisees to see what Jesus would say. The law of Moses was very clear on this subject. The woman was to be taken out and stoned to death. But these Pharisees wanted to test Jesus to see what He would say. Unfortunately, there are many today who whould rather exercise the law than exercise compassion and forgiveness. I’m thankful our God is not one of them.
Jesus didn’t judge this woman, though he had every right to do so. Instead, He placed His cross between her and her sin. He knew what awaited Him, the cross of Calvary. It was for this very purpose He had come into the world to shed His blood so those who would receive His atoning work could be saved and reconciled to the Father. The bible specifically tells us Christ did not come into the world to condemn it, He came into the world to save it.
There are a great many people today who think they are lost because they have sinned. Let me correct that thinking. They are not lost because they have sinned, they sin because they are lost. Whatever the sin may be that we have committed, it is because we are lost and do not believe in Jesus Christ. However, when we come to the knowledge we are sinners and need a savior, and we realize what Christ did upon the cross and accept His sacrifice on our behalf, we can come before Him and ask to be forgiven and have the blood of Christ applied upon our lives. He will wash away our iniquity and add our names to His book of life. That is the power of the blood of Jesus that was shed for whosoever will.
Romans 10:13 tells us, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”Isn’t it time we call upon the wonderful name of our lord, Jesus Christ, and come to know the joy of a life that is forgiven?
