New Orleans Saints pull it off in Super Bowl XLIV

The New Orleans Saints have done what many have said would never happen; they are bringing home the Lombardi Trophy after their 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

Saints fans were nervous after the first quarter, as it was all Indianapolis. The Colts scored 10 points and kept the Saints off the scoreboard. The Saints finally showed some life in the second quarter, scoring two field goals. However, they knew field goals would not win this game.

At the start of the second half of the game, the Saints struck quickly, scoring their first touchdown and taking the lead for the first time in the game, 13-10.

The Colts answered back with a touchdown of their own to regain the lead, 17-13, but the Saints refused to give up. Toward the end of the third quarter, the Saints inched closer with another field goal, making the score 17-16.

A dramatic fourth quarter would seal the game for the Saints. Quarterback Drew Brees threw a touchdown pass to Jeremy Shockey and the Saints successfully converted for two points. They took the lead, 24-17, and they would never allow the Colts to score again.

To put the exclamation point on the night, the Saints scored a final touchdown on a 74-yard interception return by Tracy Porter.

The Colts had one final chance to knock on the Saints' door, but the defense held strong and kept the Colts from reaching the end zone.

Fans have much to celebrate. The Saints will be bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to New Orleans after many years of struggling to reach the big game.

Brees was named the game's MVP, collecting two touchdowns and 288 yards on 32 completions.
