Evangeline Parish Police Jury President Bob Manuel said they will allow the use of fireworks in the parish’s rural areas but cautioned residents to be very careful.

Manuel said the jury is sending a warning to rural residents to be very careful and to use extreme caution. Fireworks can be utilized through the holiday weekend, July 3, to July 5.

Fire officials suggest keeping a bucket of water or a hose nearby when utilizing fireworks. Despite the recent rain, it is still dry and dangerous. If a fire started and was not quickly extinguished, this dry, hot weather could lead to serious structural damage to our homes and businesses.

Turkey Creek will follow the parish’s lead. Ville Platte has an ordinance banning fireworks in the city limits during the Fourth of July holiday. Mamou and Pine Prairie have banned the use of fireworks for this year within their corporate limits due to the extreme hot, dry weather.

The state is presently under a burn ban, and no type of private, open burning is allowed unless one speaks to their local fire department. Those who fail to adhere to this order will face still fines and possible jail time.
