Savoy Care Center: Observing the season of Lent

Patricia Duplechin

This year, Lent begins February 17, Ash Wednesday, and concludes Saturday, April 3. It is a six-week period of spiritual reflection. The season of Lent, for many Christians, is a very sacred and holy time of the year. It is a time of fasting, renewal and repentance. Ash Wednesday is a day of grief as Christians put ashes in the sign of the cross on their foreheads in remembrance of the suffering and death of Jesus. It reminds us of our mortality by the resurrection of Jesus and his promise to take his followers to heaven. Christians practice self denial by giving up something and some practice self giving by taking up something, such as extra prayers, visiting the infirmed or going to mass more often. It helps us to be reminded of Jesus going through intense agony for our sake. It allows us to grow stronger in faith and become more dedicated to our religion. Take time this year in the Lenten season to reflect on your personal needs and use this time to really experience self discipline for the sake of feeling blessed each day that Jesus died for us to save us.

Savoy Care Center’s Employee of the Month for February is Elizabeth Gallow and the Resident of the Month is Morine Lafleur. Congratulations to both.

The staff of Savoy Care Center would like to thank St. Francis Nursing Home in Oberlin for hosting the Third Annual Mardi Gras Extravaganza. As always, it is a blessing to see so many area nursing facilities participate in enjoying life with the residents and looking forward to yet another one.
