A traffic stop in Pine Prairie January 17, led to the recovery of narcotics and two arrests.

Pine Prairie Police Chief Todd Ortis said Officer Robbie Tate made a traffic stop for speeding in the early morning hours. During the course of the stop, Tate secured permission to search the vehicle based on information he had. He was joined by Sgt. Dwayne Ledoux of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, who identified an individual in the vehicle.

The two officers worked together and searched the vehicle and located Schedule II narcotics. Ortis said a further investigation of this incident led authorities to determine the narcotics were destined for a residence in the Pine Prairie area. With the information Officer Tate had, Ortis said two of the four occupants of the vehicle were arrested for the large amount of prescription medication discovered in the vehicle.

Two were charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics:

•Michael Shane Willis, 40 (dob 7-26-1969), 813 Noah Chapman Lane, Oberlin.

•Trista Lynn Johnson Carroll, 26 (dob 12-6-83), 308 N. Fifth St., Oakdale.

Both were booked into the parish jail on $15,000 bonds.

Ortis thanked the sheriff’s office for its assistance. He also encouraged residents to report any suspected illegal activities to his office. He said all callers will remain anonymous.
