Stephen Lafleur

Stephen Lafleur, who was wanted by Mamou police for allegedly beating a woman with a gun and shooting at her vehicle on Monday, has turned himself in. Lafleur’s alleged victim reported that her daughter was at the scene when the incident occurred and Mamou police began searching for him.

The Ville Platte Women’s Association will be sponsoring its 30th annual Miss Ville Platte Scholarship Queen’s Contest on Sunday, March 29. Co-sponsors for the event are Mayor Jennifer Vidrine and the City of Ville Platte. The contest will be held at the Ville Platte Civic Center beginning at 9 a.m.

Layton Michael Ashurst is wanted by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office for two counts of theft of a motor vehicle and burglary, with more charges pending. It was learned by the sheriff’s office that Ashurst may be in the Lockport or Cutoff areas. If Ashurst is seen, please contact the sheriff’s office at 363-2161.

Trojans extend win streak with wins at Rayne Tourney

The Sacred Heart baseball team went into the Rayne High School Tournament riding an eight game win streak. The Trojans continued their winning ways by gaining two more wins this past weekend. Sacred Heart defeated Hanson 8-0 in the first game and then took care of Rayne 15-10.

Demons split games at New Iberia Tournament

The Mamou High Demons traveled to New Iberia to participate in the New Iberia Senior High baseball tournament this past weekend. Mamou moves to 2-10 on the year after splitting two games in the tournament. The Demons lost to Catholic of New Iberia 7-2 and defeated New Iberia 6-5.

On Tuesday, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans traveled to New Roads to take on the Catholic of Pointe Coupee Lady Hornets in the first district 5-1A game for both schools. Catholic held the Lady Trojans to one run on three hits in a 4-1 win.

Funeral services will be held for Roy James Thomas, 50, at the Owens-Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28. Burial will follow in the St. Matthew Cemetery.

Funeral services were held for Foster Vidrine, 96, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 24. Burial followed in the Te Mamou Cemetery.
Mr. Vidrine died Monday, March 23, 2015, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte.
