Evangeline Parish’s Kevin Fontenot named Deputy of the Year in St. Landry
OPELOUSAS - Kevin Fontenot of Bayou Chicot, a deputy with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Lt. Graig LeBlanc, an officer with the Opelousas Police Department, were recognized Tuesday, March 9, at the Rotary’s weekly luncheon as St. Landry Parish’s top law enforcement officers of the year. The luncheon was held at the Indian Hills Country Club.
The two officers received plaques during the luncheon from 27th District Court Judge Alonzo Harris.
Ville Platte man arrested in shooting of woman he once lived with

A Ville Platte man is facing aggravated second-degree battery charges after allegedly shooting a female friend.
Captain Keith Dupre, chief of detectives for the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were sent to a medical emergency Saturday, March 6, involving a shooting, which allegedly occurred off Division Road, behind the Kennedy Subdivision.

Larry Callier II indicted for production and possession of child pornography
LAFAYETTE - Larry Caillier, II, 32, of Opelousas, was indicted for production and possession of child pornography and attempt to coerce a minor to engage in criminal sexual acts, Acting United States Attorney William J. Flanagan announced today. Caillier has been ordered detained pending trial after his arrest on February 26, 2010. He is scheduled for an initial appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Patrick J. Hanna on March 16, 2010.

Arrests from March 4th to 8th released
The Ville Platte Police Department reported five arrests between March 4, and March 8.
Arrested were the following:
•Harris Virgil, 34, 329 LeBesque Road, #7, Breaux Bridge, was charged March 4, with public intoxication by Officer Thomas Michael. Virgil was released on a $400 bond.
•Davis Lewis, 26, 819 N. Chataignier St., Ville Platte, was charged March 5, with no insurance and no driver’s license by Officer Tyler Tate. Lewis was released on a $2,700 bond.
