The annual Children’s Tournoi Pageant was held Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the Northside Civic Center. Kings and queens, along with the runners-up, were selected in the following 16 categories:

During the aftermath of hurricanes, the emotional expressions by adults influence the reactions of children in their care. Teachers can help children deal with their feelings by closely monitoring their own emotional situation as well as modeling healthy coping strategies.

Fontenot celebrates 50 years with KVPI

Bonnie Fontenot celebrated 50 years as office manager and bookkeeper with KVPI Friday, September 26. She has worked under several station managers and has seen many changes in the radio industry over the years. One of the major changes she recalls is going from reel to reel to automation, but she says the changes are always for the better. She adds each boss has been good to her and her co-workers are like family. She still enjoys her job to this day and says there is never a dull moment at the radio station.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month recognized

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Evangeline Parish mayors signed a proclamation declaring their dedication to ending violence against women and children. They encourage their communties to stand together against violence and help put an end to the suffering of abused women and children. Once suspected in a variety of diseases, coffee now has an impressive resume. Mounting evidence suggests coffee drinkers have a lower risk developing Type II diabetes, gallstones Parkinson’s Disease, cirrhosis and certain types of liver, breast and colon cancers.
