Basile and Elton battle for first victory of the season
Both teams are winless thus far in the 2008 football season. Both teams are banged up with injuries which have forced their coaches to almost completely change their offenses. Now will be the time for either Basile or Elton to step up and clinch that first victory of the season.
The Indians are 0-3 on the year with losses to some of the same teams Basile has lost too. South Beauregard and St. Ed’s each handed the two teams a loss. The Indians’ other loss came to the Bears of Gueydan High School.
Elton traditionally runs a very good double -wing offense. They have stuck with it over the years, despite a lack of success. That’s the most common formation the Bearcats will see tomorrow night.
Basile’s offense got back on it’s feet last week, but struggled to get points on the board. They racked up a total of 252 yards of total offense, which included 208 on the ground. Starting quarterback Fabien Bellard was back in action and even managed to throw a touchdown pass to Matt Pruitt late in the game.
Another factor that could prove positive results for the Cats is the health of super star running back Derrick Thomas. The young man is back and nearly 100 percent. He carried the ball nine times last week and grabbed 63 yards. That’s an average of nine yards per carry.
If the Cats are going to make a fight for the District 5-1A championship, they have to regroup tomorrow night and grab that first victory.
