The Evangeline Parish Police Jury briefly discussed taking legal action against residents who have not paid their sewage bills during its committee meetings Monday, October 6.

Secretary/Treasurer Doug Deville said the number of people delinquent on their sewer payments will be presented to the jury at its regular meeting Monday, October 13. The jury will discuss taking legal action against these residents at that time.

The jury also approved the sale of the courthouse’s 100 kilowatt generator. The jury agreed to advertise for bids.

In other business, the jury:

•Approved the attendance of President Bob Manuel and Eric Soileau to the RAC Steering Committee meeting.

•Learned from Public Works Director Chester Granger the chip sealing project has come to an end for this year. Granger said two roads in Juror Lamar Johnson’s district had been completed recently and the parish would end chip sealing until next year.

•Agreed to find four tandem trucks to purchase for parish use through state contract. Deville said the funds to pay for the vehicles, when they are acquired, will come from the two-percent sales tax.

•Approved applying for economic development grants to fund repairs of the Industrial Park water tower and to allow the parish to tie the Industrial Park into the Te Mamou Water District. Deville said this tie-in would be used as a back up at the park in case of emergencies.
