Mamou plans its Cajun Music Fest

Paul Daigle will be honored at the 39th Annual Mamou Cajun Music Festival, which will be observed Friday, August 13, and Saturday, August 14, at the town’s recreational complex, located on Main Street, adjacent to state Highway 13.

The festival weekend is filled with music, workshops, a presentation to the honoree, Paul Daigle, and contests.

On Friday, Cajun Tradition takes the stage from 6 to 8 p.m. High Performance follows from 8:15 to 11:30 p.m. Don’t forget the potato dance competition begins at 9 p.m.

Saturday’s events begin with a program from 9 to 11 a.m. at the World Famous Fred’s Lounge featuring Brandon Moreau avec Pain Perdu. The festival returns to the complex with Jason Frey from 11:15 to 1:45 p.m. Paul Daigle will perform from 2 to 4:30 p.m. At 3 p.m. the presentation begins.

Kyle Huval and the Dixie Club Ramblers take the stage from 4:45 to 7:15 p.m. He’ll be followed by Kevin Naquin and the Ossun Playbous from 7:30 to 11 p.m.

Contests on Saturday include:

•10:15 a.m. – Egg Throwing (adults and children can enter)

•11 a.m. – Cajun Dizzy Dash

•12 p.m.– Women’s Beer Drinking

•12:15 p.m. – Men’s Beer Drinking

•12:30 p.m. – Boudin Eating

•12:45 p.m. – Children Watermelon Eating

•1 p.m. – Washerboard Tournament

•1 p.m. –Children’s Sack Race

•1:30 p.m. – Children’s Guinea Chase

•2:30 p.m. – Women’s Arm Wrestling

•3 p.m. – Men’s Arm Wrestling

•3:30 p.m. – Women’s Nail Driving

•4 p.m. – Men’s Nail Driving

•4:30 p.m. – Women’s Passe Partout

•5 p.m. – Men’s Passe Partout

•5:30 p.m. – Greased Pole Climbing.
