After qualifying for the October 4th, election began Wednesday, July 9, it appears there will be some heated races for the Evangeline Parish District Attorney seat, Ville Platte City Marshall and Pine Prairie Chief of Police. Qualifying for the fall election opened at 8 a.m. and will continue through Friday, July 11, at 4:30 p.m. Among those qualifying for the district attorney’s seat were incumbent district attorney Brent Coreil and his former assistant district attorney, Trent Brignac. In the area of city marshal for Ville Platte, Mike Lee, who currently holds the marshal’s office will be facing Ronald “T” Doucet, who presently serves on the police jury, and Blaine Matte, a former Ville Platte Police Officer. Pine Prairie Police Chief L.C. Deshotel will be facing Todd Ortis, who is a detective with the Mamou Police Department. It seemed the incumbent judges may have no opposition since no one qualified by the end of the day. J. Larry Vidrine qualified for his present seat, District Judge, Division A, and Thomas “Tom” Fuselier qualified for his seat, District Judge, Division B. Ville Platte City Judge Donald J. Launey Jr. was the only person to register for that seat. Others qualifying for office were: •Dave McGee, Justice of Peace, Ward Two •Hope Landreneau, Justice of the Peace, Ward Three •Marilyn D. Mayeux and A.C. “Robin” Tatman, Justice of the Peace, Ward Five •Earlin Fruge and Michael “Mike” Stockwell, Constable, Ward Two •Joe Deshotel Jr., Constable, Ward Three •Bradley Ardoin, Constable, Ward Four •J.
