~ The Tangipahoa Parish Fair 2008 opened on a beautiful day (Wed. 10-01). Rain always messes up ever thang. How some ever, this year Mother Nature put out a cool, dry, gorgeous day - let the fun begin!
~ Don't know how them Judges ever decide on who to pick as Fair Queen - 'cause all them young ladies are jes that - young, pretty, sweet and smart. Last year, Amanda Wright wuz named 2008 Tangipahoa Parish Fair Queen. She really deserves the crown. Iffen ya'll missed Amanda's "Farewell" letter on the front p age of the Tangi Digest last week - Wal! Fer goodness sakes! Get yo'self a copy and read it. She done good! Had a great year and represented the Tangipahoa Parish Fair in a very Royal manner. Thanks, Amanda!
~ Sorry to learn of the death of Paul Newman. He wuz a great guy. When he wuz in New Orleans in 1958 filming "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", Leo Lanier (somehow) met Paul Newman and his wife, Joanne Woodward. They spent a short time visiting. Wal! This wuz so exciting. Leo (my brother) had a way of gettin' to know Folks. Musta drove him crazy wid all my questions - "How'd he look? Tall, blond wid intense blue eyes. Did you actually talk to him? Of course. What did ya'll talk about?
~ Jes ever thang. How did he make you feel? Comfortable! He is jes lak a regular guy. Aw! Come on, Leo. He musta made some kind of impression on ya!" What Leo said next actually described Paul Newman. Ya see - thar wuz six men in this Lanier family - so Leo had five brothers. "Actually, he jes felt lak a brother." So - that wuz Paul Newman - "A Brother." Yep! He wuz a "Brother" to the World. He wuz interested in life - not riches. All the profits from his business wuz donated to Charities - his "brothers" of the World. His heart felt endeavors will be felt for many years to come. Rest in peace, Brother!
~ This Food Stamps Program has sho' put a heavy strain on the State employees of the Family Support Office. Because of the demand, workers were serving thirteen hours a day to see as many people as possible. Traffic jams and traffic problems were created by folks jamming the "Sign-up Places." All in all, Chief Trabona's men and the Home Guard men did a good - (but tough) - job at keeping the peace.
~ Barbara Crockerham had a little heart palpitation problem and spent a few days in the horsepital at North Oaks. Medication got her heart regulated, so - she's on her feet and back at work. O.K. Barbara - ya' got a heart of gold. May the Good Lord take care of it fer ya'!
~ Mrs. Jean Dees Courtney is now home after a lengthy stay in North Oaks Hospital. She came home Tuesday, Sept. 30. She had surgery on an leg that wuz giving her a lot of pain. Recovery will most likely be slow. We pray she will be relived of her pain and she will recover soon.
~ Ya'll see Fellas - wid all the stuff going on in Washington, D. C. and on Wall Street about "money" - iffen ya' got money - rekon ya' is worried. Iffen' ya' ain't got a lotta money to lose - then ya' ain't worried. Ronald Reagan (one of the best presidents we ever had) one said - "A Recession is when ya' neighbors loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours."
~ Don't know how all this here "Bail Out" stuff is gonna turn out - nor how the Presidential election will turn out. But thar is one thang ya' can be sure of - God still is in control of it all. What ever happens, maybe we'll return to being America - one Nation under God!
