	Bonjour!
My next second Sunday of the month children’s Cajun music jam session at Vermilionville will be May 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.<!--break--> If your child or grandchild is interested in playing music, bring them. If they want to learn to play an instrument, many of our talented local musicians do teach their skills. The way this world is now and our kids hear the same news as we do, encourage them to learn something that’ll bring them joy and give them a gift to share with others. Playing music keeps their minds and hands busy and prevents boredom.
I volunteer my time at Vermilionville not only to help our kids but also to promote our culture. Adults have their entertainment, kids need theirs also. Nothing better then music. I think back of the way I tortured my family with my horrible singing and now kids can take vocal lessons.
Don Grierson was a friend to all of us and loved our Cajun people and culture. Many didn’t know him, but he admired us all for who we are. He and his wife Rheta Grimsley bought a small bungalow in Henderson and called it their camp. They spent much of their time at home in Iuka, Miss., and time here when ever possible for the beauty of the Henderson area. He and Rheta were very close to Doug and Emeline Mequet and Johnell and Jeanette Latiolais, their best buddies. He loved to fish and hunt, our Cajun music and food. Don was a journalist and taught journalism, so he recognized the finer things in life and chose to spend it here, their home away from home.
I enjoy my afternoons sitting outside on my new picnic benches given to me by Gert Faucheaux’s family, put together by her son-in-law David Laviolette. I slip away from TV and listen to Cajun and old country music on KROF. I deserve that treat. It took a long time to make it to this time in my life and now I want to smell the fresh air and hear and watch the birds, see the little honey bees going from one flower to another sucking the nectar. I planted moss in my cypress trees years ago and it’s growing. Every now and then I pluck and transfer some from one tree to another. We were blessed with rain during last winter and that helped all the greenery. We’d been having some short droughts in recent years but looks now like that might have come to past.
Attention! I gave the wrong date on District Attorney Phil Haney’s Educational Seminar which will be held May 12 at the Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton. May 12 y’all.
My three girls, Blanche, Tina and Bonnie, took me to eat at Café des Amis last Friday. It was Bonnie’s birthday but I reaped the treat also. I sat there for about thirty minutes waiting on them to show up and I gotta tell y’all, that café filled up in no time. Delicious!
Henderson is working on a long over due and awaited beautification of her town. It’s going to be such a dramatic change for the local folks. God bless America and Cajun Country.
