OPELOUSAS - St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, narcotics detectives and officers with the Opelousas Police Department conducted a joint operation during which they seized <!--break--> approximately 35 pounds of marijuana, several thousand dollars in U.S. currency, drug paraphernalia and made one arrest. 

According to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz; his narcotics detectives received information from officers with the Opelousas Police Department indicating they purchased several pounds of marijuana from David Chance Fontenot, 26. As the officers moved further in their investigation, they discovered Fontenot might live at a residence in Royal Gardens Subdivision. The officers then contacted the sheriff’s narcotics detectives. 

The two departments went to the residence and located a small quantity of marijuana, paraphernalia and a gun. The officers continued their investigation and discovered Fontenot was renting a residence on state Highway 190. The officers went to the Opelousas Police Department and obtained consent to search the residence. The officers escorted Fontenot to his residence and he led them to over 30 pounds of marijuana, 30 Lortabs, several bags of hydroponic marijuana and approximately $2,500 in U.S. currency. The approximate street value of the drugs was $35,000. 

The investigation cotninues, and at this time, the Opelousas Police Department has arrested David Fontenot, 749 Belaire Cove Road, Ville Platte, on charges of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and distribution of marijuana.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will be booking Fontenot on the following charges: possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia and monies derived from drug transactions.
