The Marks Post: Back home in Omaha
Our LSU Fightin’ Tigers seek their seventh College World Series championship this week and their second under current head coach Paul Mainieri. I grew up watching LSU Baseball and have many fond memories over the years. My favorite memory is the 1996 College World Series against Miami. My dad Ken and I were visiting Danny LaFleur at his house on Debaillon Plantation Road.
We were standing around the truck listening to the game on the radio. We went into the house just in time to watch Warren Morris hit a game winning home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Alex Cora’s reaction at shortstop for Miami is still etched in my mind. From that point on, I was hooked as a fan. My dad took me to my first game at the old Alex Box Stadium in 2000 as a high school graduation present. The old Box was located at the corner of Nicholson and what is now called Skip Bertman Drive. I remember thinking back then the stadium was a jewel.
