A stud can be defined as a place where horses are bred. However, if you consider the Guillory family compound a stud, then they are breeding Tournoi champions instead of horses.

Every October, on a Sunday afternoon, a group of Tournoi riders get ready to don a knights traditional garb, saddle up on horseback and spear through the seven enemies of cotton.

There is an old saying that cotton is the fabric of our lives. This is none truer than for Ville Platte resident Lynn Landreneau, who has compiled the rich history of the Louisiana Cotton Festival into two volumes of work.

This patch of sugar cane recently harvested near Morbihan may look strange, but it’s not a strange new variety or a genetically modified crop. According to St. Martin County Agent Alfred Guidry, it’s just normal cane that was allowed some extra time in the field during a warm spell.

Butte La Rose — Authorities as well as friends and family of Keith Gilcrease, the hunter who disappeared Christmas morning, are on the lookout for any sign of the 16-foot aluminum crawfish skiff Gilcrease had used to go hunting down by Cow Island.

BB Chamber honoring Montesano, Broussard

Breaux Bridge — The Breaux Bridge Area Chamber of Commerce will honor Bruce Montesano and the late Earl Broussard with its Distinguished Citizen award at this year's banquet.

The annual event will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Atchafalaya Club in Henderson, starting at 5:45 p.m.
