Mamou murder suspect sought

Authorities are asking for assistance from the public in locating a suspect in the Saturday, October 12, shooting death of a man south of Mamou.
The suspect is Javier Chavez Gonzalez, a 29-year-old Hispanic male, five feet, six inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with dark colored hair and a medium complexion.’
He was last seen getting out of a vehicle along the I-49 corridor near Carencro on the day after the shooting. He also was known to be in the Lafayette area Sunday. He was wearing a grey T-shirt, blue jeans, work boots and a red baseball cap.
Mike Perry, with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Gonzalez is considered armed and dangerous. People who believe they see Gonzalez should not approach him, but should immediately call local law enforcement. Gonzalez is suspected of shooting Ezequiel Soto, 31, of Mamou, on Reeton School Road at about 5 p.m. He later died at Savoy Medical center in Mamou.
