Brignac begins third term as district attorney; Fusilier joins the team as assistant
Trent Stuart Brignac received his oath of office for a third term as Evangeline Parish district attorney during a ceremony held Thursday, January 14, in the Evangeline Parish Police Jury Meeting Room. Brignac ran unopposed in both of his re-election bids after defeating then incumbent District Attorney Brent Coreil in 2008.
During his remarks, Brignac thanked his wife, Julie, for all her support. He also thanked his staff for all its hard work, dedication, and effort “to help me and this office help the public.”
Also thanked by Brignac was Marcus Fontenot who served as first assistant district attorney and chief prosecutor during both of Brignac’s previous terms.
“Marcus is leaving on the best of terms and is looking to pursue his civil practice,” said Brignac. “We wish him all the best in his endeavors.”
Tasked with filling the void created in Fontenot’s absence is Jacob Fusilier who was sworn-in as assistant district attorney during the same ceremony held Thursday.
“Jacob has been a practicing attorney here in Evangeline Parish for 13 years,” Brignac stated. “He is extremely skilled and is a very good litigator in the courtroom. He has been a member of the Indigent Defendant Board for the past 12 years and has been a formidable adversary.”
Brignac went on to say, “I consider myself, this office, and this parish very fortunate to be able to have someone with Jacob’s experience and skills, particularly courtroom skills, to be joining us as an assistant district attorney.”
Fusilier thanked his family, both district judges, and Brignac. He expressed, “I look forward to working with the team here. I’m ready to hit the ground running.”
