I, Gerald J. Fontenot, have qualified as a candidate for mayor of the Town of Mamou.
I graduated from Mamou High School and hold degrees from University of Louisiana-Lafayette in Mechanical Engineering and from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans.
I practiced law in Mamou for 19 years, including being the Town Attorney for Mamou for 18 years and being the Secretary/Treasurer of the Duralde Gravity Drainage District No. 4, Mamou Gravity Drainage District No. 5, Vidrine Gravity Drainage District No. 7 and Prairie Mamou Gravity Drainage District No. 8 for many years. I was a member of the City Attorneys Association. I am still a member in good standing of the Louisiana Bar Association with a license to practice law in Louisiana. I am also a professional engineer licensed to practice in Louisiana.
I was a Landman for 17 years in Louisiana and other states. I was also an engineer for eight years and a farmer for three years.
I was the president of the Mamou Chamber of Commerce, Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 322, Secretary/Treasurer of the Mamou Mardi Gras Association, Secretary and Treasurer of the Mamou Rotary Club, and a coach of Mamou Youth Baseball teams.
I have had many diverse careers during my life with which I will bring a vast array of experience to my leadership style. I am a local Mamou family man with strong roots to the community. My wife, Lauren, and I have made Mamou our home for over 40 years. We have two children and several grandchildren. I believe that Mamou is a great place to live and raise a family. I want to lead Mamou forward by working with the Board of Aldermen and Chief of Police to make Mamou a better place to live for all of its citizens.
I will bring Fair and Honest Leadership with Experience to the office of Mayor of the Town of Mamou.
Please support me, Gerald J. Fontenot (#59) for Mayor of the Town of Mamou.
