Le Grand Hoorah at Chicot Park is cancelled for 2020
The annual Le Grand Hoorah and Dewey Bolfa Week held at Chicot State Park has been cancelled this year, according to Prairie Heritage Inc. President “Winky” Aucoin.
Aucoin explained the decision to cancel was made before the decision was made to use Chicot as an overflow quarantine center.
“There’s usually people who come from other states and other countries,” said Aucoin. “In the last three or four weeks, they have been telling us they didn’t know if they would be making the trip or if they could make the trip.”
He continued, “As different restrictions from the (coronavirus) were imposed, we started to believe not having it was the right thing to do because it would not be well attended by people from out of state. People would not be able to come or just wouldn’t come.”
Even though the event is cancelled for this year, Aucoin still wanted to thank the sponsors.
“I have a lot of support from the community with donations,” he said. “I certainly want to thank those sponsors and those who have sent me a monetary contribution.”
He concluded, “I certainly will be getting back with them as soon as possible to discuss their sponsorship.”
