Two vehicle crash on La. 104 claims life of 18-year-old
A two vehicle crash in Evangeline Parish claimed the life of an 18-year-old on Friday, August 10, 2018.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on La. Hwy. 104 at Beacon Road and resulted in the death of McKenzie Dupre, of Washington.
In a release from Louisiana State Police, it states that “the initial investigation indicated that Dupre was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry northbound on Beacon Rd at the intersection of La. Hwy. 104,” while at the same time, “69-year-old James Fontenot of Mamou was operating a 2002 Ford F-150 eastbound on La. 104.”
According to the release, “Dupre proceeded through the intersection, and her Camry was struck by the F-150.”
LSP reported that “Dupre was not wearing a seat belt and sustained critical injuries.” The 18-year-old was “transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.”
According to state police, “Fontenot was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries,” and “was transported to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.”
In its release, the LSP stated that “impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, toxicology samples were taken from Dupre and Fontenot and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.”
This crash, according to the LSP, remains under investigation at this time.
