Regular season comes to an end for parish girls’ basketball teams
The Lady Panthers wrapped up the regular season with a pair of defeats.
In Tuesday's non-district contest against North Central, Pine Prairie hung tough for all four quarters but fell just short of pulling out the win in a 48-44 loss.
North Central built a slim lead as the Hurricanes led 13-10 after the first quarter. North Central would only outscore Pine Prairie by one point each in the second and third quarters. The Lady Panthers won the final quarter 15-14 but still fell by four points.
North Central was led by Ya'jaia Goudeau who had a game-high 29 points. Pine Prairie was paced by Brashaylan Doucet who scored 16 and Kameron Allen added 15 points in the loss.
Pine Prairie would wrap up the regular season with another hard-fought defeat, this time a 46-40 loss to Iota on Thursday.
Pine Prairie took an early lead as the Lady Panthers held an 11-8 advantage after the first period. In the second quarter, things changed as Avery Young heated up.
The Iota star scored 12 of her game-high 31 points in the second quarter as the Bulldogs flipped a three-point deficit into a five-point lead at halftime.
Pine Prairie cut that lead down to one point entering the fourth quarter, but Iota pulled away as Young led the way, scoring 12 points in the final period.
Pine Prairie was led by Doucet who had 13 points while Asia George added 12 in the loss.
Pine Prairie ended the regular season 14-8 overall.
Ville Platte 37
The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs opened up the final week of the regular season with a 61-37 defeat at the hands of District 5-3A foe Iota.
Iota jumped out to a 16-11 lead with hot shooting from beyond the arc as they drained three three-pointers. Iota's Leah Hebert scored nine points in the first, including hitting a pair of three-pointers.
Iota would keep up the pace with a 14-point second quarter and then pulled away by scoring 19 points in the third quarter. Ville Platte, meanwhile, scored just 13 points in the second and third combined.
Avery Young led Iota with 24 points while Hebert added 23 in the victory. Ville Platte was led by Kaydan Coward who had 12 points.
Ville Platte wrapped up the regular season against Church Point on Friday.
Sacred Heart 30
The Sacred Heart girls’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 46-30 loss to Grant on Tuesday.
Sacred Heart trailed early as Grant jumped out to a 11-3 lead after the first quarter. The Trojans would play much better in the second quarter only losing the period 9-8.
Grant distanced itself in the third and entered the final quarter with a 13-point lead. Sacred Heart had its best quarter of the game in the fourth, scoring 12 points, but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome the deficit.
Grant was led by Madison Siddle who scored a game-high 12 points while Abby McCain added 10 points. Jodie Landry paced Sacred Heart with 10 points.
Sacred Heart's scheduled regular season finale against Glenmora on Friday was cancelled. The Trojans end the regular season with a 3-15 overall record.
